Two institutional bets landed in the same 24 hours: one for humanity's overlooked diseases, one for a Big Four firm's headcount.

The Gates Foundation committed $200 million in grant funding, Claude usage credits, and technical support to work with Anthropic on global health, education, economic mobility, and language accessibility over four years. The starting point is specific: polio, HPV, and eclampsia. Not abstract “healthcare.” Claude is already screening drug candidates and catching patterns in systematic reviews (Anthropic, Gates Foundation); the partnership formalizes and funds that work at scale.

The education arm runs two tracks: K-12 tutoring in the US, foundational literacy and numeracy in sub-Saharan Africa and India. The language component addresses a structural gap AI systems have ignored for years. Dozens of African languages have inadequate training data. The partnership will fund collection and labeling and release it publicly, which means the upside goes beyond Claude.

$200M in grant funding, Claude usage credits, and technical support over four years. Focus: overlooked diseases (polio, HPV, eclampsia/preeclampsia), K-12 tutoring in the US, literacy programs in sub-Saharan Africa and India, agricultural productivity, and African language datasets released as public goods.
PwC will train and certify 30,000 professionals on Claude and establish a joint Center of Excellence. Deployment starts with US teams, then expands to a global workforce of hundreds of thousands. Three focus areas: agentic technology build, AI-native deal execution, and enterprise function reinvention. Claude Code and Cowork are part of the stack.
Claude Code
Fast mode default model bumped from Opus 4.6 to Opus 4.7 (set CLAUDE_CODE_OPUS_4_6_FAST_MODE_OVERRIDE=1 to pin to 4.6). New flags for claude agents: --add-dir, --settings, --mcp-config, --plugin-dir, --permission-mode, --model, --effort, --dangerously-skip-permissions to configure dispatched background sessions. Plugins with a root-level SKILL.md and no skills/ subdirectory now surface as a skill. /plugin details pane shows LSP servers a plugin provides. /web-setup warns before replacing an existing GitHub App connection. Bug fix: MCP_TOOL_TIMEOUT now correctly raises the per-request fetch timeout for remote HTTP and SSE MCP servers (was capped at 60 seconds regardless of config). Fixed background sessions not recognizing pre-existing git worktrees.
Plugin dependency enforcement: claude plugin disable now refuses when another enabled plugin depends on the target (provides a copy-pasteable disable-chain hint); claude plugin enable force-enables transitive dependencies. Projected context cost (per-turn and per-invocation token estimates) added to the /plugin marketplace browse pane. New worktree.bgIsolation: "none" setting lets background sessions edit the working copy directly without EnterWorktree, for repos where worktrees are impractical. PowerShell tool now passes -ExecutionPolicy Bypass. Background sessions preserve model and effort level after waking from idle.
Stay on the frontier
