WWDC 2026 opened this morning with iOS 27 making Claude a user-selectable AI engine inside Siri. One SDK patch. Two items total.
Apple opened WWDC 2026 on June 8 with iOS 27's new Extensions framework: users can now designate Claude, Gemini, or ChatGPT as their preferred AI engine for Siri, Writing Tools, and Image Playground. Gemini holds the native default at a reported $1 billion annual contract with Google; Claude arrives as a user-installed extension layered on top. iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 ship fall 2026.
Gemini has the advantage of native integration and custom model tuning. Claude gets reach. Whether reach converts to daily usage depends on how many iPhone owners actively switch their AI engine in Settings. Apple's default wins that race, but being in the lineup is a different kind of win.
2 confirmed items. June 07 to June 08, 2026.
