Anthropic announced a $150 million nonprofit fellowship and a $200 million economic research fund on the same day it shipped two Claude Code versions: capability and liability in one news cycle.
Claude Corps is a national fellowship placing 1,000 early-career workers inside nonprofits for a year at $85,000 each, trained on Claude. First cohort of 100 starts October 19. Applications close July 17. No degree required: over 18, under two years of full-time work experience, authorized to work in the US. Run by Anthropic alongside CodePath and Social Finance, with over 400 nonprofits hosting in year one.
The announcement came one day after a $200 million Economic Futures Research Fund and a Dario Amodei policy essay proposing tiered government responses to AI-driven unemployment, from 5% through levels requiring universal basic income and equity-sharing frameworks. The $350 million combined spend is the first time Anthropic has attached a dollar figure to economic mitigation alongside its model agenda. The implicit concession is clear: the disruption is real, the number is big enough to say so out loud.
