Lead

John Jumper, who shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for creating AlphaFold, announced June 19 that he is joining Anthropic after nine years at Google DeepMind. Reported first by Bloomberg on June 19, confirmed by TechCrunch on June 20. His specific role at Anthropic has not been announced.

The hire aligns with Anthropic's push into life sciences and computational biology. Jumper was the youngest chemistry laureate in more than 70 years when he received the prize.

The day before: Noam Shazeer, one of the architects of Gemini, departed for OpenAI. Two of Google's most credentialed researchers, gone in 48 hours, in opposite directions. Google loses a Nobel. Anthropic gains one.

Nobel Laureate John Jumper Joins Anthropic (reported by TechCrunch)
John Jumper, 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for AlphaFold, is leaving Google DeepMind for Anthropic after nine years. Bloomberg first reported June 19; TechCrunch confirmed June 20. His role at Anthropic has not been announced. His departure comes one day after Gemini co-lead Noam Shazeer left for OpenAI, giving Google two landmark researcher exits in 48 hours.
Why it matters A Nobel in hard science is a different category of credentialing than any benchmark score. Anthropic now has one in the cabinet, and a clearer life-sciences flag on the mast.

How to use Update via claude update. Behavior is unchanged; this is a messaging-only fix for long-running API waits.

Fable 5 on Subscription Plans: Free Window Closes June 22
Claude Fable 5 has been included at no extra cost on Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans since June 9. That window closes after June 22. Starting June 23, Fable 5 usage on those plans draws from usage credits at API rates: $10 per million input tokens, $50 per million output tokens. Anthropic has not announced a date for restoring Fable 5 as a standard plan feature.
How to use If you depend on Fable 5 under a subscription plan, verify your usage credit balance before June 23. API-billed and consumption-based Enterprise customers are unaffected by the cutover.
